I really love this sculpture. I will tell you how it came to be. I had already made a couple, I think, of my series of Cats. I was ready to go larger. I was looking at pictures of cats on the web, of course. Then I went home and watched my cat, Ginger. I was sitting on a bench outside and she was sun bathing. Actually, it was funny because she was about to lick her but. You know how cats do. She was bathing and sun bathing on the driveway, perched in this very cat quality position. Suddenly, she heard something. As cats do, she looked up, all alert and totally stopping her activity. This is the gesture I observed.

Now, when you work on a piece, you don't always know what you are going to make. Or, partly you do, but there are many discoveries on the way. So I did not know exactly what kind of Cat I was going to make this one. But as I was making it, that gesture of Ginger's came to me. As it turns out, this sculpture captures exactly her expression as she looked up, about to lick her rump while sun bathing and bathing herself. It's histerical. At least, I find it so. It looks just like her. At least, if I were to transform her into a piece of whimsy in my imagination. Yes, that is what she would look like at that moment.

The way this sculpture is perched is interesting. One leg is out, and the body rests on the other haunch, which looks like a base the sculpture rests on, if you look at it from the back.

The grey patina is enchanting. A fellow who saw me finishing the coloring on her said so. He could see all the sorts of colors I had put into the grey. I told him it was about ready to go to the gallery. "I should say so," he said. So, it is always nice to get feedback like this. I know my pieces are valuable. But it is always nice to hear that others think this way as well.

This is a fairly large piece. Like my other Cats, indeed most all of my art, it is also sturdy.
